Mission

The mission of the Somali American Police Association (SAPA) is to promote positive relationships between the Somali-American community and law enforcement through mutual understanding, respect, and cooperation. We aim to increase representation and diversity within the police force, provide training and resources to both law enforcement and the community, and work to create safer and stronger communities for all. Our goal is to bridge the gap between the Somali-American community and law enforcement, and to build a better future for all.

Vision

The vision of the Somali American Police Association (SAPA) is to be a leading organization that empowers the Somali-American community and law enforcement to work together in creating safe and inclusive communities. We envision a future where the Somali-American community is fully engaged and respected by law enforcement, and where the diverse perspectives and contributions of Somali-American police officers are valued and utilized. Our ultimate goal is to create a society where all individuals, regardless of their background, are treated with dignity and respect and have equal opportunities to succeed.

Ahmed Ismail Awl

Ahmed Awl has worked for the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office since 2018. He has a BS in Law Enforcement and MBA in Leadership. In Ahmed’s free time he enjoys spending time with his family.

Vice-President

Kadra Mohamed

Kadra Mohamed is a sergeant with the with the Metro Transit Police Department, she has been with the department for 8 years. She has a BA in Criminal Justice with a minor in Human Relations, she is currently in school to attain an MA in International Relations. Kadra is an advocate for youth mentorship in her community and within the association. During her free time Kadra enjoys spending time with her cat.

Asad Ahmed

Asad Ahmed is a Deputy with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office for 6 years. He is currently working in the jail division.

Secretary

Sagal Abdirahman

Sagal Abdirahman is currently a Crime Prevention Coordinator with the St. Paul Police Department. She has been in this role since March 2020. Sagal has a bachelors in Sociology with a concentration in Crime and Deviance from Augsburg University and has a background in race, equity, and inclusion work. She holds certifications in Crime Prevention through Environmental Design, International Crime Free, and is a member of the MN Crime Prevention Association. In her free time, Sagal enjoys spoiling her niece and nephew and eating good food!

Sergeant At Arms

Mukhtar Ali

Mukhtar Ali is a sergeant with the Minneapolis Police Department. He has been an a sworn law enforcement officer for over 13 years.
